This is a mother/calf pair. The mother is a whale named Boomerang. Her not-so-small baby is now several months old and is learning how to be a whale. The calf will stay with Boomerang for a year and will travel to Silver Banks in the Fall with her. The calf will be weaned on the feeding grounds (Stellwagen Bank) in late fall or along the migration route or on the breeding grounds (Silver Bank) during the winter.
