I may very well be wrong, but "beefsteak mushroom" popped into my head. Again, check TomVolkFungi.net.
This sure grabbed my attention! I was at an educational nature center for a morning bird walk, stuck around to paint & took a hike along a couple of trails. I've never seen so many kinds of fungi in just one day. This one takes the prize for impact!
Vivid color for sure!
