Collibri - hummingmoth - hummingbird hawkmoth

Macroglossum stellatarum

Description:

For many years Italians have told me that this is their hummingbird. I have always said it looks like an insect more than a hummingbird. So here it is the Italian "colibri" which is actually the name of a South American humingbird which has been transposed into Italian to refer to this magnificent humming butterfly that pollinizes very many flowering species in Italy while drinking nectar.

Habitat:

Urban garden landscape
