White-tailed Deer

Odocoileus virginianus

Description:

White-tailed deer are one of North America's most common big game animal, native to nearly all US states and Canadian provinces and stretching southward into Mexico, Central America, and into northern South America. White-tailed deer are a medium sized deer. Their coats are reddish during the summer and grayish brown in winter. Males have antlers that are shed annually. This particular buck has only "spikes" for antlers.

Habitat:

White-tails typically live in forests and while they may venture into grasslands they seem to prefer heavier cover.
