Awesome! Thanks Chun for going the extra length for the ID of this one! You can go ahead and suggest an ID if you would like! Yeah, I changed my name a few times; I think J is a good one to settle on! :)

Sorry J, the moustache is still not visible but from this angle, I can say that it is an Eris militaris based on the hairs standing out above it's fangs. It also lacks of long straight hairs in front of it's abdomen which Eris flava have. These are based on comparing reliable photographs of both species.

Psst..... is it just me or your name keeps on changing ?

Chun, I have uploaded a new photo. Hope it helps more in the ID process. I could not get a head-on shot of this guy.

Thanks a lot, Chun!! I have another photo of the spider I haven't uploaded; I'll upload and see if that 'stache is there! Thanks so much!

Based on 3 reference that I have studied from.....

Distribution : Eris militaris occurs more in your area while there might be a slight chance of having Eris flava living there.
Drawings : Your spotting has the "sideburns" of E. militaris and the head top marks of E. flava.
Scientists' photographs : Not so helpful.

The last way of differentiating between Eris flava & E. militaris is through comparing their "moustache", the line between their fangs and eye. Eris flava has a clear white line just above the fangs while E. militaris lack of that Do you remember whether it has that "moustache" ?

I'm leaning towards E. flava. What do you think?

Thanks Chun! On BugGuide, they look very similar. Is there any way you have found to distinguish the two?

Either Eris flava or Eris militaris.
