Description:

large hawk maybe 20 inches long; rich brown above and mostly white breast with brown spotted belly band, very broad, rounded wings and a short, wide tail; banded tail sign of juvenile.

Habitat:

urban schoolyard with lots of big old oak trees and open playing fields

Notes:

This young one was right above me in a maple tree undisturbed by me talking to it and very curious about me stayed for a long time and I left before it did.
