Even though there was plenty of milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) around, this caterpillar was the only Monarch I saw, at any stage of the life cycle.

A very beautiful caterpillar....
and that is my point! I have been looking in the milkweeds for a while! you have been lucky enough to spot at least one!
