Syrphidae
Small flying insect able to produce a distinct buzzing noise, markedly different from that of bees. Yellowish-brown and black striped abdomen. Furry thorax. Large compound eyes dominate the head. Hooked feet are clearly present. Wing veination is identifiable as common to Syrphidae (Hoverfly).
This fly was photographed visiting my Nasturtium in the back yard of an urban area.
From the wing venations, I believe this may is a species of hoverfly.
