Black Vulture

Coragyps atratus

Habitat:

Found on the gravel road to our house. Most often found along paved roads where cars drive faster and there is more roadkill.

Notes:

Cathartes aura, the Turkey Vulture, find carrion by smell. The Black Vulture flys higher and watches the Turkey Vultures. Following them to the carrion. When I drove by them I thought they were feeding on a squirrel. Looking at this photo again it looks bigger than a squirrel.
