Gray ratsnake

Pantherophis spiloides

Description:

This snake is about 6 feet long. It is black in color with a white under belly. It’s shed skin was found nearby and measured. An additional two sheddings were found elsewhere in the building. This snake's eyes appear cloudy due to incomplete shedding of old skin. As we observed it flicked its black tongue.

Habitat:

This snake was found in the seldom used outbuilding of a farm in western Kentucky. Cultivated fields are nearby, along with woods and a creek.
