In general the terms "dove" and "pigeon" are used somewhat interchangeably. In ornithological practice, there is a tendency for "dove" to be used for smaller species and "pigeon" for larger ones, but this is in no way consistently applied, and historically the common names for these birds involve a great deal of variation between the terms "dove" and "pigeon." (wikipedia) Which is why it's so important to use scientific names on Project Noah, so we can have accuracy in identifying organisms.

Thanks Jason, Harsha, and Jolly. Glad you like the humor.
Nice one Ava.
Haha! I had to work hard to locate them. Good one, Ava. :)
Great timing!
There's an article in today's NY Times about the amazing genetic variations in pigeons: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/02/05/scienc...
Thanks RubyPrakash. It's my favorite comedic spotting.
good click Ava
You're welcome! I'm just taking a break and making rounds. And yes, ") I did notice that. My favorite is the one in the middle looking at the bird droppings on his shoulder. LOL
Thanks for your 'likes" nexttogone! on this one, look at the saint on the right; he's actually looking up at the pigeon!
I'm amused. ")
good recommendation about postcards!
Thanks arlanda.
Lovely!
Thanks Azura. Sergio, it's not the cathedral, it's just some church near the Metropol Parasol. In the land of the Inquisition, there's a church every other block, and a tapas bar in between to make sure you're eating your pork ;-)
Ava, is that the Seville Cathedral?
Awesome!
Wonderful photo, Ava.
Awesome! I wonder which one is St Francis of Assisi!
Thanks Antonio and Smith's Zoo. ;)
