1,2 cm give or take. Fairly big for a hopper as far as I know... not having seen many bigger ones than this. Lovely pattern on the wings...

this link is the closest match to the spot i have seen (second pic)
it did not have an elaborate "hood" as most do, and the angle of the body on side view did not have such an angle, it is not flat, but flatter than most

The description on this link is correct, wings etc, but twice the size, so dont know if it could be the correct ID.

Ok, it is not Spittle Bug/Cercopidae bayucca, they seem too small and rounder, this one was longer and seemed like a more solid insect, if that makes sense.

It might be in the family Cercopidae (Froghoppers, spittle bugs) like Poophilus or Cordia.

Smaller type of cicada (Family Cicadae) of which Neomuda is indicated in the Cape, but it is too big ± 50mm

Treehoppers (Family Membracidae) like Centrotus or Oxyrachis.

Hopefully this will get you on the track.

yes, no I understand, I must say, I am so excited about the Cape Zebra Cockroach, I went out looking for more today.... and nothing, now I think I should have taken more pics of the one yesterday. So Im all ears when you suggest ID's or point me in the right direction! Thanks again!
