Mojave Rattlesnake

Crotalus scutulatus

Description:

A common sighting in the Mojave in extreme southern Nevada, southeastern California, and through Arizona into Mexico. By rattlesnake standards not the largest, but the venom is as toxic as any other. This guy was sunning under a large rock in the Calico Basin area of Red Rock Canyon. There was as well another behind further under the rock, but I would have had to get closer to photo...I was thinking not a good idea. I took several photos before it started getting annoyed, so I thought it best to let it be.

Habitat:

Mojave and Sonoran Desert areas.
