A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Buteo lineatus
Whether wheeling over a swamp forest or whistling plaintively from a riverine park, a Red-shouldered Hawk is typically a sign of tall woods and water. It’s one of our most distinctively marked common hawks, with barred reddish-peachy underparts and a strongly banded tail. In flight, translucent crescents near the wingtips help to identify the species at a distance. These forest hawks hunt prey ranging from mice to frogs and snakes. (Cornell)

Thanks Emily. It tried catching a red squirrel and missed and was just standing there for a while.
Excellent shot sir! Love the composition. What was he doing on the ground? Any idea?
Thanks Ashley. As far as the cold and snow, I'm with you there, I hate them too!
Beautiful shots, Tom :) As much as I hate the cold and the snow, birds sure do look pretty in it!
Thanks Rieko, it's one of my favorite hawks.
Nice shot.
Jemma, thanks I added this to the wildlife in snow mission.
There is a mission on wildlife in snow.
