Deer Lichen

unknown

Description:

These silvery-green fluffy-looking clumps look like little green Tribbles (for you Star-trek fans!). They are amazing terrestrial lichens. They are also humidity indicators- they shrivel up quickly in dry air, and puff up again when it is humid. It had just finished raining when I took this picture today, so they were extra "poofy".

Habitat:

What was probably once a sand pine habitat, based on some of the remnant trees etc I found.

Notes:

I had a hard time clicking "fungi" for the category, since technically it is both a plant (algae) and a fungi living together in a symbiotic relationship. I'm just weird that way! lol
