Papilio bootes janaka Westwood, 1842
Apparently this is a Rose Windmill, however the specimens I referred to have black dots on their red abdomen, whereas the red abdomen on this spotting has black 'lines'. Experts may pl review and comment.
River bank with lots of dirty wet sands. Whole area has bushes and thick forests. Warm to hot place.
Pl note this, this butterfly is in the process of laying eggs.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated Dr. Sherpa!
It would be perfect if you could actually update the description for this spotting now that the ID has been sorted out. Thanks in advance!
Hi Dr.! If you look carefully at images of Rose Windmills you will see that it's not only the abdomen that doesn't match, but red and white markings along the hindwing are different as well. Check out the Tailed Redbreast, Papilio bootes.
