Egretta garzetta garzetta
This striking and elegant member of the heron family can be identified by its pure white feathers; elongated, sinuous neck; long, black legs and dark, stabbing bill. Subspecies Egretta garzetta garzetta is identified by the vivid yellow feet.
Seen at the Ashtamudi Lake.
They stalk their prey in shallow water, often running with raised wings or shuffling its feet to disturb small fish. They may also stand still and wait to ambush prey. This picture was clicked by me.
