Description:

The Orange-humped Mapleworm Moth (Symmerista leucitys) is a moth of the Notodontidae family. It is found in North America, from southern Canada and the northern half of the United States east of the Great Plains. The wingspan is about 35 mm. There is one generation per year. The larvae feed on Acer species.

Forests.

Nice spot Fyn! I saw this in August, though I read about caterpillars in the Symmerista genus, and David Wagner has found there is no reliable way to distinguish larval species in the Symmerista genus.
