Banded Hairstreak Butterfly

Description:

Family: Lycaenidea, Subfamily: Theclinae. Wingspan: 3-3.8 cm (1 1/8 - 1 1/2 inches.) Gray/blue in color. "Hairstreaks" through wing. Tiny tail on each hindwing. Orange and bright blue near tail. Black and white stripe antennae with knobs and black and white stripe legs. Adults feed on nectar of various low plants such as goldenrod, clover, Queen Anne's lace. Hosts: Certain type of oak trees.

Habitat:

Meadows with abundant flowers and weeds.
