Erynnis juvenalis
A spread wing skipper. Wing Span: 1 1/4 - 1 15/16 inches (3.2 - 4.9 cm). Upperside of male is brown with clear spots, indistinct dark markings, and scattered white hairs; female has larger markings and spots.
This is a community center outdoor garden that has many annual and non-native plants, and small water features. Most of the insect activity was on the Lantana, Salvia and Zinnias.
To wait for females, males perch in forest clearings or edges on bare twigs about 3-12 feet above the ground; they will often patrol from these perches.
