shelf fungi

Description:

large shelflike fungus, red on top, white below, I think this might be Gandoderma lucidum, but not sure

Habitat:

dead log, mixed forest

Notes:

The largest fungi I've seen in Algonquin provincial park. For a dry summer, this was in perfect condition.

Dan , I read that Canada once was like the tropics and had a tropical climate.

Canada is beautiful. This fungi just makes us realize there is so much more to be seen!!I can imagine something like this being found in Canada! Every little wood might have its own treasures!!

I think it could be that too. Looks like it's probably either G. lucidum and G. tsugae.
