Spun Glass Slug Moth

Isochaetes beutenmuelleri

Description:

Small, pale green caterpillar with darker green markings. Body covered with stinging bristles with a large "bustle" of bristles on the rump. These caterpillars can cause skin irritation so I avoided touching it or letting it walk on me. I saw two of these during our hike. This is the only species in it's genus.

Habitat:

Temperate forest. Nolin Lake State Park, Kentucky.

Notes:

One of my favorite finds of this trip!
