Trashline Orbweaver

Cyclosa sp.

Description:

A Cyclosa spider is a master of camouflage. It is not just a matter of chance that the colours of the spider match very well with leaf litter and other materials it uses in its "trashline" web decoration. This spider seems to be able to choose colours and textures and assemble them in in a way that realy makes it difficult for a predator to see it, I often have to look at the decoration from different angles, just to make sure that I that I am focusing on the actual spider. For this spotting, I only got one photo which shows the spider. The second picture is just the "uncropped version" to show the habitat.

Habitat:

This spider was spotted in our backyard. Its web was attached to branches and twigs of various unidentified plants in the shade of a clump of Spiny Bamboo (Bambusa bambos) locally known as Kauayan-tinik. Plant information from - http://www.stuartxchange.org/Kauayan.htm...
