Ring-necked snake #4 (young of the year)

Diadophis punctatus

Description:

Slender nonvenomous snake. Dark brown with yellow band around the neck & yellow belly. 1 of 8 spotted within a few 100 yards in this location.

Habitat:

Bicentennial trail

Notes:

I'll be adding a separate spotting for each of the 6 snakes of this species I managed to photograph (2 escaped before I could capture them!) as the data is being recorded for Snake count. The little guy was by far the feistiest snake we encountered all day, including the cottonmouth we found & messed with. He did his best to bite my friends hand - but his mouth was so small she was completely unaware until it was pointed out to her!
