Mugga Ironbark tree

Eucalyptus sideroxylon

Description:

Also known as Mugga, Red Ironbark. Grows to a large tree, native to Australia. Dark, at times black, deeply furrowed bark including all of trunk and limbs, in season has typical eucalyptus style blossoms usually red/deep pink, but can vary in between shades to a cream colour. Very upper limbs more smooth and white, leaves have a bluish green colour with centre vein and edges in light pink/red. Produces copious amounts of nectar in good seasons, seems to flower more profusely every second year. Once more common, has been cleared for grazing and timber use. A necessary tree for endangered species such as the beautiful Regent Honeyeater.

Habitat:

Found in only a few selected patches within regions of south east Queensland, NSW and Victoria. These trees found in semi-pure stands in western region of New England Tablelands growing either side of highway.
