black-billed magpie

pica sericea

Description:

The Black-billed Magpies, also known as "ggachee" in korean, ranges widely from Europe through Asia, as well as the western part of North America. It is a common symbol of Korea, and has been adopted in many South Korean cities as the "official bird." Similar to the European magpie, black-billed magpies have shorter tails and longer wings. They also have black and purple colors, and a bit of green.

Habitat:

The Black-billed Magpies live among the meadows, grasslands, and sagebrush plains of the West. Although they like open areas, they stay close to cover for protection from raptors.
