Virginia Rail

Description:

A secretive bird of freshwater marshes, the Virginia Rail most often remains hidden in dense vegetation. It possesses many adaptations for moving through its habitat, including a laterally compressed body, long toes, and flexible vertebrae. Small, chicken-like marsh bird with a compact body, short tail, and strong legs. Rufous throat and breast, gray cheeks with a long, slightly curved red bill.

Habitat:

This is Yacht Basin Road. It is noted as a place that Rails visit. It is at the intersections of a canal, Rollover Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.
