Shoestring Fern

Vittaria lineata

Description:

Though it looks more like a grass, this is actually a fern. When they are just starting out they do have the classic curl of a fiddlehead (see https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/12...). Often found on Sabal Palm Trees just as shown here. Actually, I have only ever seen them on Sabal Palms

Habitat:

Among some mosses on a Sabal Palm tree on the Chassahowitzka Salt Marsh Trails. This part of the trails was dominated by Sabal palms and other plants found in parts of Florida that get a lot of water inundation such as maple. It was about a 5 minute walk from here to the actual salt marsh/river.

I have seen Vittaria growing on limestone in Sumter County. I posted pictures on inaturalist but got no response.
