Eastern Tailed-Blue Butterfly

Description:

Family: Lycaenidae, Genus: Cupido. A common butterfly WS 21-29 mm. TL 18-27 mm. Female. Female are charcoal or light blue in coloring although there might be variable coloring. Ventral view. Whitish gray with black spots and dashes with orange on rear with 1 tail on each wing. Striped antennae.

Habitat:

Meadows and fields abundant with their favorite food of clover, alfalfa and other legumes.

Notes:

Secretes substance favored by some ant species and in turn the ants "protect" the larva. (Late flyer in October)
