Muskrat

Ondatra zibethicus

Habitat:

Man-made canal habitat

Notes:

This muskrat seemed curious about me sitting there. It just swam up and watched me for a few seconds, and off it went. I wish more critters were as curious as this one!

Thanks Stephanie! I really do enjoy watching muskrats. Hema, those teeth are orangish/yellow, similar to a beaver's. I've always found it fascinating that in both of these species, their teeth never quit growing. I have a couple of skulls that I have found from both and the front incisors come out, and they are impressively long!
