palm warbler

Setophaga palmarum

Description:

I'm identifying this as a palm warbler even though it seems to be outside its range here in Maryland. It has a rusty cap on top of head, yellow belly and underparts, yellow eyebrow, brown back, brown cheek, and faint streaking on sides. This palm warbler seems to be in breeding plumage.

Habitat:

This palm warbler was spotted at a park in Millersville, Maryland. It was probably migrating through the area on its way North.

Thanks Malcolm Wilton-Jones for verifying my spotting as a palm warbler migrating through my area. I was lucky on this spotting and am thrilled.

According to my book it summers to the north of you, winters to the south, and passages through all in-between states on migration. You have just spotted a passage migrant, well done.
