Recurvirostra americana
To feed they swing their bills back and forth to catch invertebrates. They have the winter plumage with their heads being gray. During breeding season adult heads are a rusty color. The body is white and wings are black and white. They have dark, long, upturned bills and long light colored legs.
At the end of Graveyard Slough on Lake Lewisville. this is the second one to fly in to feed on its fall migration.

They look equally elegant in their non breeding plumage!
Graveyard Slough is a very sheltered cove. They seemed content as long as we were on the opposite side of the cove. I love migration time.
Good shots...they are rather shy of people.
