Chalcotropis Jumping Spider

Chalcotropis sp.

Description:

Chalcotropis sp. Jumping spider, of family Salticidae, with chocolate brown coloring. Matching image: http://salticidae.org/salticid/diagnost/.... Chalcotropis Simon, 1902, is known from India eastwards to Sulawesi and the Philippines. The genus has 5 species which were described by Simon in 1902, 2 more by Merian in 1911, and an old record from Tonga -Keyserling, 1881. With one exception, a female from Sulawesi, all were males. From that time no more species were recorded until a new species - another male - was described from the Philippines, C. luceroi. At the moment, 3 species are recorded in the Philippines: 1. Chalcotropis decemstriata Simon, 1902 (http://salticidae.org/salticid/diagnost/...), 2. Chalcotropis praeclara Simon, 1902 (http://salticidae.org/salticid/diagnost/...), 3. Chalcotropis luceroi Barrion & Litsinger, 1995 (http://salticidae.org/salticid/diagnost/...).

Habitat:

Spotted in the backyard climbing a vanda orchid leaf.

Notes:

Reference: http://salticidae.org/salticid/diagnost/.... My spotting looks a lot like C. luceroi, if not for the description of a yellow median stripe running from the level of the posterior eyes to the rear edge, and that the legs, in general, are yellow and spiny. I am not sure if the color yellow is true with my spotting.
