Leaf Miner Damage

Description:

Leaf miner damage on a citrus leaf

Habitat:

I didn't note what type of citrus this leaf came from. In our citrus orchard.

Notes:

Looks like a different species of leaf miner than my last post. Leaf miners are the larvae of moths or flies or Saw flies or beetles.

Hi Tom, I had no idea that leaf miners could be so interesting. Like most people (I think), I have not paid much attention to them, but I will from now on. One of your spottings shows what seems to be random wandering around, but the other looks like a very deliberate pattern made from straight(-ish) lines and "U" turns, something like a farmer ploughing a field. I wonder if different species, or maybe different orders of insects have their own particular styles and, if so, can they be identified from the patterns they create? I think I'll go out and have a good look at some of those and see what I can find. Thanks, Tom.
