Ornamental Tree-trunk Spider

Herennia multipuncta

Description:

About the size of the now defunct 25 p coin in India. Ashy white colour. Abdomen is flat and has a sort of stellate margin and is pitted dorsally. Legs have dark bands.

Habitat:

Suntaley Khola is a remote hilly and forested area by the River Murty in the Dooars region of West Bengal, India. This spider was spotted ion the walls of the resort we stayed in. It blended in so well with the stone's texture and colour that it is a marvel I spotted it at all. Once I saw the first one...I saw many others of the same kind. For two days, this one stayed put...what did it catch? What did it eat?

Notes:

First time I have seen such a spider.
