Hyalarcta nigrescens
Several of these wonderful shapes were hanging from the finer branghlets of a eucalyptus. The largest ones were about 50mm long and the smallest about 35mm.

I think they were still active Martin. They certainly had a solid body inside and although the skin looks dry by colour it was quite supple and silky.
Neat. I wonder if these are remnants of case moths long deceased since they look very old and withered. Their case is VERY tough and I haven't bothered to dissect one yet. I guess the large one is the female, who lives and dies in the case; here is the male who eventually emerges. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/830...
