Splitgill Fungus

Schizophyllum commune

Description:

White or with a grey or light fawn tint, fan shaped; usually fairly small, diameter 40mm (can be up to 75 x 37 mm). The upper surface of the cap is furry and the edge can appear undulating or scalloped due to overlapping tiers. The underside shows white to pale beige gills that actually split lengthways.

Habitat:

white mushroom, grows on old beech trunk

Notes:

It is a pathogenic fungus that has been identified as the cause of a number of respiratory diseases in humans.

Thank you, Lipase, I did search and think you're right, I read that this fungus cause respiratory problems and it's pathogenic!

Maybe this one is Schizophyllum commune AKA Splitgill Fungus, it has been known (about a dozen cases) to actually grow on children whose immune systems are not yet fully developed: http://mushroomobserver.org/name/show_na...
