Dekay's Brownsnake

Storeria dekayi

Description:

This is a small (11") non-venomous Colubrid snake that had light gray stripes on a light brown background. There were small black dots on each side of the center (dorsal) gray stripe. The venter is also light colored and has a black dot at the ends of the ventral scales.

Habitat:

This snake was found on a sidewalk in Eastern Omaha (300 masl).

Notes:

This little guy was found on the sidewalk long after he should have been hibernating. It was getting down into the low 40's at night. It was a nice suprise to encounter on my morning walk. Any day I find a snake is a good day!
