Late Fall Oyster Mushroom

Panellus serotinus

Description:

thick, orange caps stacked on top of each other growing on a half dead oak.

Habitat:

temperate forest

Notes:

This was my only cool spotting during a 3 hour hike at Queenston. There was a few of these growing in a grove of Oak. I've never seen anything like these before. Reminds me of something out of Avatar.

Hi! I think it might be a weird deformation/discoloration of Panellus serotinus!

No way! Food comparisons never get old, it's always interesting what something else can resemble. It does look more on the edible side.

I know my food comparisons are getting kind of old, but in the last two shots the mushrooms really resemble some nice, crackly bread.

I wonder if these are edible.
