Clover Looper Moth

Caenurgina crassiuscula

Description:

Family: Erebidae, Subfamily: Erebinae, Tribe: Euclidiini. Although Looper is in its name, it is not a looper moth but belongs to underwings, zales and related owlets. A common daytime moth feeding on variety of grasses and plants. TL 17-22 mm. Worn markings. FW is pale tan with 2-3 spots on each wing at the bottom. Brownish AM and PM bands joined together.

Habitat:

Small meadow by the road with abundant flowers and weeds. Shown here feeding on white aster flowers.

Notes:

Also attracted to light. Cameo appearance by male Northern Paper Wasp (Polistes fuscatus - 21-25 mm long), http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/100...
