White Dunce Cap

Conocybe albipes

Description:

Smaller mushroom with gills. Tannish cap with rusty brown gills. Fine ridges in cap, thin stem. Growing singly.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard lawn. Partial shade.

Notes:

This seems to be a slightly older specimen since the cap is not white any more but this appears to be common as the mushrooms age. This mushroom appears to have several scientific names. I am not sure which one is the preferred name. If anyone finds that this is a different species please feel free to let me know. I am not very good at fungus ID. :)
