Eastern River Cooter

Pseudemys concinna

Description:

Eastern River Cooter observed at Crosby Arboretum in Picayune, MS.

Habitat:

Shady pond area predominated by floating water plants.

Notes:

Photographed from a foot bridge crossing a pond at Crosby Arboretum in Picayune, MS. It was slightly below the surface accounting for the lack of contrast. You can see the sun light deflecting from the top of the murky water. It was hard to determine the size from our vantage point. The best guess is approximately 9-10 inches long.
