Cauliflower mushroom

Sparassis sp. (spathulata?)

Description:

Very large, at least volleyball sized; cream colored; ruffles or coral-like in shape; has a fallen leaf in center with mold growing onto it; dry to touch

Habitat:

Found along the Woodland Trail at the Crosby Arboretum in Picayune, MS. In wooded area, near base of a tree, heavy leaf litter. Unsure whether wood beneath the leaf litter, I can't remember my impression now, or type of tree.
