Lubber Grasshopper

Taeniopoda varipennis

Description:

This is the final post of a buch of Lubber's that I watched growing up on my property this year. It took them about 5 months to get to complete adulthood. The started out as black babies, then yellow adolescents, and finished as brown adults with red antennae and wings. They measure around 4" long. They are excellent flyers and a complete nuisance when they land in your hair!

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica 4 months into the 6 month dry season.
