This is one of the medium sized preying mantis. I was only able to get this shot before it flew away. This was shot at night near a light pole

Habitat:

Tropical dry forest in NW Costa Rica 5 months into the 6 month rainy season.

Boy Harsha, where do I start. The mantis are so elegant. Those compound eyes are memerizing. They can lose their heads and continue copulating....and they are nearly unmatched in their fierce nature!
