The Yellow or Australian Admiral (Vanessa itea) is a butterfly native to Australia, New Zealand, Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands. It is a member of the family Nymphalidae, the sub-family Nymphalinae as well as the tribe Nymphalini.

Hey Pam, nice butterfly. This adult is very worn and possibly emerged last season, hibernating over winter. It appears to have perched on nettle and she (?) has very likely been laying eggs on that larval foodplant. http://morwellnp.pangaean.net/cgi-bin/sh...
