Northern Black Racer

Coluber constrictor constrictor

Description:

Imagine my surprise finding this beauty sunning on the side of the house where I live! Black snake with a white chin, throat and tip of the snout. Black tongue. Very fast moving and alert. Did not attempt to escape when I was taking pictures, rather, came closer to the camera for investigation. The snake was mildly concerned at my presence and was vibrating his/her tail a bit in defense when I got a little too close for the snake to be comfortable. Harmless to humans.

Habitat:

Yard with small areas of temperate woodlands bordering.

Ashley, we are still staying with my parents, so this is in their yard, but yes, I guess. Haha! I am pretty sure I spotted this snake again hanging out under the edge of the driveway (space under the cement block near the garage door). My mom found a 5+ foot long shed skin (all intact) from one of these (maybe from this very snake!) a couple of weeks ago. I have it. :-)
