Inflatible Leaf Katydid

Rhomboptera semilunata

Description:

This green katydid is 47mm from forehead to wingtips. They keep their wings down flat to hide their legs when camouflaging on top of a leaf. It's hind legs are yellow while the front 2 pairs are green in color. This nocturnal insect can also fly. Rhomboptera semilunata are identifiable by the pair of little black crescent marks above the base of the wings.

Habitat:

Plants in Maliau Basin, Tawau district, Sabah.

Notes:

>>>Map accuracy : 5km diameter. I found out that it is very aggressive when I picked it up and got my fingers chewed by it aggressively. This species can be easily misidentified as Pseudophyllus, Phyllomimus, or Chondroderella. Special thanks to Chien Lee for the identification.
