Starfish shrimp

Periclimenes soror

Description:

Small shrimp, with long, spiny, rostrum, flattened antennal scales shaped like a duck bill. It lives in association with many starfish species, matching the colour of the host, with colour variations ranging from purple-blue to orange-red, to brown, to white. A lighter band may run along the back. 1.5 cm.

Habitat:

Indo Pacific. Back reef, Coastal bay, Deep reef, Lagoon, Reef external slope, Reef front. Always associated with many starfish species, if threatened hides under the low side of the host. They can live in groups on the same host.
