Rhea americana (Ñandú)

Description:

The rhea americana or ñandú, as we call it, is a common bird in Uruguay. It lives in our grasslands and eggs can commonly be found here and there. The males have a black neck with a tie-like shape, as it is commonly said.

Habitat:

All around Uruguay´s grasslands. The pictures were taken in a preserved area in Pirapolis, Maldonado.

Notes:

As it was breeding season the black necked males were searching for females and competing with rival males.
